At Vanashree, biodiversity is not an afterthought—it is the foundation of everything we do.

Flora

What was once an open landscape has gradually transformed into a thriving green sanctuary. Today, Vanashree is home to over 4,500 trees representing more than 150 species, spread across most of the farm. These include fruit-bearing trees, timber species, native forest trees and many varieties planted simply to enrich biodiversity and provide food and shelter for wildlife.

Seasonal vegetables, cereals, pulses, herbs and flowering plants are grown using sustainable and integrated farming practices. We follow mixed cropping and companion planting methods that improve soil fertility, reduce pests naturally and support a healthy ecosystem. Native grasses, often overlooked, play an equally important role by preventing soil erosion and providing habitat for countless insects, birds and small animals.

Fauna

Located close to a reserved forest, Vanashree is blessed with an abundance of wildlife. The farm has become a haven for birds, butterflies and many other species that have returned as the landscape has matured.

More than 70 species of birds have been recorded here, including hornbills, owls, bee-eaters, sunbirds, drongos, orioles, weaver birds and many more. Butterflies, pollinators and beneficial insects thrive throughout the year, playing an essential role in maintaining the farm’s ecological balance.

The surrounding forest also brings occasional visits from wild boars, jackals, jungle cats, hares and, on rare occasions, elephants, leopards and bears—gentle reminders that we share this landscape with nature. The resident monkey brigade often gets on our nerves and the crop.

Our own farm family includes indigenous Malenadu Gidda and Hallikar cattle, free-ranging poultry, goats, and a few much-loved pets, all of which contribute to the life and character of Vanashree.

Every tree planted and every species that chooses to make Vanashree its home reaffirms our belief that when we nurture biodiversity, nature responds with abundance. We continue to learn from this ever-evolving ecosystem and hope every visitor leaves with a deeper appreciation for the remarkable diversity of life that surrounds us.
